From Friday 24th to Monday 27th April, we're doing something we don't often do. We're opening the cellar, and a handful of back-vintage wines will come out of the archive and go into glasses at the cellar door in Wilyabrup. Some of these bottles have been quietly resting for the better part of two decades. They don't come out often, and once they're gone, they're gone.
THE LINEUP
Eight wines spanning nearly thirty vintages of Willespie fruit: from the current release back to 1996. Choose any four to taste.
- Wilyabrup Reserve 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon -the current flagship, for the benchmark
- Old School 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon
- Willespie 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon
- Reserve 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon
- Willespie 2010 Shiraz
- Willespie 1998 Shiraz
- Willespie 2006 Verdelho
- Old School 2010 Semillon
Tasting through the Cabernets alone is a chance to see what three decades of dry-grown Wilyabrup fruit does in the bottle - how the Reserve 1996 is still holding, where the 2002 sits now, what the 2008 is showing, and how the 2020 reads against all of them. Add the Shiraz and the older whites alongside, and you've got a picture of the estate across vintages most people never get to line up next to each other.
COME AND DROP BY
When: Friday 24th – Monday 27th April
Where: Cellar door, Willespie Estate, Wilyabrup
Cost: $50 per person for four wines, fully redeemable on any featured Museum wine purchased on the day.
Or keep it simple - a glass, a bottle, a seat with the view, how ever you want to spend the afternoon.
Booking a table is the safest bet. Otherwise, just come and find us at the cellar door.
Some of these wines we only have a case or two of left. When they're poured out, that's the last of them. So if there's a vintage on the list that means something to you - a birth year, an anniversary, this is the weekend to come and taste it before it's gone for good.
See you at the cellar door.
